Unable to start SQL Server Services

I was unable to start the SQL Server service and was getting the following errors.

 Server Error: 26055, Severity: 16, State: 1.
Server The SQL Server failed to initialize VIA support library [QLVipl.dll]. This normally indicates the VIA support library does not exist or is corrupted. Please repair or disable the VIA network protocol. Error: 0x7e.
 Server Error: 17182, Severity: 16, State: 1.
Server TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x7e, status code 0x60

This got solved by going to the SQL Server Configuration Manager and choosing SQL Server Native Client Configuration and  disabling the VIA Protocol

Path Does Not Exist Error Excel Services on Windows Server 2008

Windows Server 2008 is out and lot of developers are using the same on Virtual Machines to develop their applications and consequently hit some roadblocks.

I am sharing one such issue i faced.

When we publish a file in Excel services using Excel in Windows Server 2008 it was not possible on Windows Server 2008 VM , On entering the URL of the path of the document Library  I  got the ‘Path does not exist.  Check Path and try again” error.

The solution is to got Manage Server ->Features->Add Features and install the Desktop Experience Feature. Caution: Dont do it on the Production server. It does not need it.

Error when you deploy helpdesk.wsp

You might get an error when you install the helpdesk template "Feature ’75a0fea7-12fe-4cad-a1b2-525fa776c07e’ is not installed in this farm, and can not be added to this scope. "

The solution is to install the "ApplicationTemplatecore.wsp"  which is already mentioned in the deployment instructions but you might have overlooked it just like me. But first you have to retract the solution helpdesk.wsp and ensure windows sharepoint administration service is running else the timer job will fail and you will have to use execadmsvcjobs to run the timer jobs again . You can then delete the solution and redploy after deploying Applicationtemplate core solution.

Also check if the helpdesk site is already formed by checking the content mangement and structure from the toplevel site and delete it if necessary.

Command Line error when you try to install ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp

You might get a command line error when you try and install ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp when you copy the command from the deployment instructions file.
The solution is to type the entire command rather than copy paste. Hope the tip saves some headaches. 🙂
